Abstract - The majority of schools, at any level, have a number of students who are considered as problematic students, including in vocational high schools. Generally, the labeling of "problematic student" is based on student behavior that deviates from school rules and low academic achievement. Whatever factors cause students to become problematic, the teacher is still obliged to teach and train each student according to the established vocational curriculum. However, when teachers only focus on providing subjects material without involving problematic student characters in the learning process, student behavior and learning achievement will hard to improve and will even lead to new problems. Learning objectives are challenging to achieve, and the quality of human resources is low are two examples of adverse impacts that are very likely to occur. Therefore, it is vital to collect information about how to deal with problematic students and the various potentials behind their presence in the school. Based on classroom action research for two academic years (2014/2015 and 2015/2016) at grade II students (class XI) at Kandanghaur vocational high school, Indramayu Regency, West Java Province of Indonesia, revealed several ways of dealing with problematic students. Research findings also revealed students' potentials that are strictly related to psychological and communication factors.
